Berlin is a great place for a holiday and our conference falls in the summer vacation period for schools in most countries in the northern hemisphere. Whether you come by yourself, with a spouse or partner, or with your family, Knowledge Nomads has designed this event to be enjoyed by everyone.
ACCOMPANYING SPOUSES / PARTNERS / OTHER ADULTS
An accompanying adult ticket is available as part of the online registration process for delegates attending the week-long event. To understand what is included in this ticket see information at Good to Know.
For optional shows and tours, delegates can choose whether to buy tickets for both themselves and their accompanying person (and children, where appropriate) during the online registration process.
Conference Hotel: If you wish to accommodate young children in your hotel room along with two adults, please contact the hotel individually to make your reservation. Our dedicated hotel booking link is only set up to handle standard bookings for single or double occupancy. The hotel has a limited number of rooms in which baby cots and children's beds can be set up. The hotel can provide a baby cot free of charge. Extra beds for children will incur an extra cost. The Radisson Blu Berlin Reservations Department can be reached on telephone +49 30 238 28 3500 or by email at Reservations.Berlin@RadissonBLU.com.
Babysitting: The concierge at the Radisson Blu can organise babysitting for guests staying in the hotel. It is best to do this a few days ahead of the day the babysitter will be required. The cost is Euro 30/hour, and a minimum of 3 hours must be booked/paid for. Reservations can be made by calling +49 30 25 76 28 18, or emailing email@example.com. If you require babysitting services for the first night of the conference (TV Tower dinner), we strongly recommend that you contact the concierge before your arrival in Berlin.
CONFERENCE EVENTS FOR CHILDREN
VW Day Trip, Thursday 27 July
Delegate registrations and accompanying person registrations for the week-long event include our VW Day Trip to Wolfsburg on Thursday 27 July, and this is a family-friendly outing that will be fun for children and teenagers of all ages. Child Tickets for the VW Day Trip can be purchased as an add-on during online registration. These include return train fares, Autostadt entry and programming, and the VW factory tour. Lunch in Wolfsburg is not included, but there there are many food options available.
Minimum age for VW factory tour: due to the size of our group we have booked some factory tours directly with the VW factory, and the remainder through the Autostadt to maximise the number of places available to us on the day. Children under 3 years old are not permitted on either factory tour, but a Knowledge Nomads staff member will be available to take care of children under 3 at the Autostadt while parents go on one of the factory tours. Families with children aged 3 to 9 must participate in the factory tour organised through the Autostadt scheduled at 12:10pm. Families with all children aged 10 and over may participate in either the factory tour offered by the Autostadt at 12:10 or that offered by the factory at 2:30pm. To assist us in allocating your family to the right factory tour and in order to help us plan appropriate child minding for under threes, please specify the names and ages of your children as at 23 July 2017, when you complete your online registration and purchase Child Tickets for the VW Day Trip.
Car Tower Ascent: Children must be at least 100cm tall in order to ride up the Car Towers at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg. Knowledge Nomads staff can take care of children under 100cm tall while their parents do their Car Tower ascent, which takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Car Tower rides have been pre-booked throughout the day and will take place in groups of six at a time. The Car Tower Ascent is not suitable for pregnant women, people with heart conditions or guests with physical disabilities (e.g. those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility).
Arts & Culture Day, Tuesday 25 July
Delegate registrations and accompanying person registrations for the week-long event include participation in our Arts & Culture Day in Berlin on Tuesday 25 July, when we will be in a small group with an expert guide on the Third Reich for the day. Children aged 14 and over may accompany their parents. We suggest you discuss the tour on offer that day with your children aged 14 and over to decide whether they wish to participate. Delegates can purchase a 14 Plus Ticket for the Arts & Culture Day as an add-on during the online registration process.
For children under 14 who are too young for the Arts & Culture Day small group tour, Knowledge Nomads can provide appropriate supervised programming, to allow parents to enjoy the Arts & Culture Day. The cost will depend on the number of children, their ages, and the activities undertaken. Please email us separately at firstname.lastname@example.org if you require this service for under 14s on Tuesday 25 July.
Architecture Tour & TV Tower Dinner on Sunday 23 July / Closing Dinner on Friday 28 July
These events are included in the week-long ticket conference registration price for delegates and registered adult accompanying persons. Children are not permitted at either. If you require babysitting for one or both of these evenings, please request this well in advance from the conference hotel.
Optional Tours and Shows
Delegates can book tickets for children for optional tours and shows as appropriate during the online registration process. Please be guided by the notes below:
- Bike Tour: Helmets are provided for everyone who takes the tour. Children who are able to independently and confidently ride a bicycle without trainer wheels, who understand road rules and are able to keep up at a leisurely pace with a group of adults can participate riding their own bike. The bike company has smaller bikes for children. Very small children can travel on a child's seat supplied by the bike company, on an adult's bicycle. The bike company also has some "tag-a-long" carriages for children to sit in, towed by a parent. Lunch/snack/drink in the beer garden during this tour is not included in the price.
- The Tap Pack at the TIPI am Kanzleramt: Children under 6 are not permitted, and we are advised the show is appropriate for ages 8 upwards. Drinks start at 6:30pm, show at 8pm, finishing around 10pm.
- Guided Tour, Dinner and Concert in Charlottenburg Palace: This outing is not suitable for children under 14. The guided tour starts at 3:30pm and takes two hours, before the reception followed by dinner. The concert finishes at approximately 10pm. Some children aged 14 and over may find it enjoyable, depending on the individual child and their interests.
- Tour of the German Federal Parliament Building: Children of all ages are welcome. The tour starts at 5pm and ends on top of the building next to the glass dome, adjacent to the restaurant for our closing reception and dinner. Any children taking the tour will be accompanied back to the hotel by a Knowledge Nomads staff member after exploring the dome, so that their parents can continue on to the dinner.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR CHILDREN
Conference delegates and registered accompanying adults will be issued with a Berlin WelcomeCard as part of their registration, good for 6 days from date of first validation on all public transport in all three zones. Up to three children aged 6 to 14 years can travel for free with an adult holding a valid WelcomeCard. Children under 6 travel for free on Berlin public transport. Older children not travelling with an adult holding a WelcomeCard, or aged 15 or over travelling with an adult holding a WelcomeCard, will need to buy an appropriate ticket. Knowledge Nomads staff and the hotel concierge will be happy to advise you.
